He was born in London, UK, 1969, and studied metalwork at Princeton college, where his instructor noticed his talent and recommended him to an traditional English jewelry apprenticeship, where he practiced for 7 years, restoring Victorian, art nouvea and deco pieces.
I love how much faith that Alexander McQueen, the person he designed for, put in Leane. His pieces are minimalistic but use the material, metal, to make a statement about beauty and emotions. Some are tributes to culture, like his metal corset inspired by the Ndebele women in South Africa, and others are tributes to the human experience, like his tahitian pearl pieve, which he claims represents a person's strength, as the pearls look like eggs which represent new hope in midst of thorns. His work inspires me to continue metalwork and to play around with pieces which may be worn uncomfortably to envoke a sense of discomfort.
