Drawing Process - Artist Copy

September to October - learning the mark


In Art 3, we are practicing copying classical artist drawings to capture their style, and then applying it to self-portraits. I chose Raphael's "Leda and the Swan," because when I think of renaissance art, I get an image of his sketches in mind. It was a difficult process using pen and ink to make different shades, values, and line thicknesses, but as I kept going, I came closer and closer to emulating his work. While I do need more practice with drawing like Raphael, it is exciting to begin brainstorming ideas for how I portray myself in the portrait.
